Hi and welcome back to English with Kathryn.

Today we're going to continue talking about the Coronavirus and we're going to talk

about different ways to describe your boredom.

Okay, so most of Europe and the world are or will be in a confinement situation because of COVID19.

There are of course many disadvantages to not being able to continue our normal lives such as not being able to roam freely outside.

Being confined can be really challenging!

But on the bright side for all my English students out there, why not take this opportunity to improve your English!

You can watch TV or Netflix in English (with English subtitles of course), watch and learn from the millions of English resources on YouTube.

Today you are going to learn a few expressions to describe how crazy you are going because of this social isolation.

Now the question we normally ask people in English is,

- “How are you coping?”

"To cope" is to deal with something effectively.

So how are you coping?

Oh! you know alright, I suppose.

The second expression is - to be bored to tears or to be bored to death

For example,

- I was bored to tears listening to that lecture today.

The third expression is - to be bored stiff

- How are you doing?

- Oh, I'm bored stiff. I've already watched all the good series on Netflix, cleaned the house,

did the gardening ..can't stand it!

The fourth expression is - I'm sick of…

- I'm sick of being confined.

- I'm sick of being on my own.

Another version, - sick to death

- I'm sick to death of these four walls.

The fifth expression is - driving me insane

For example,

- The kids are driving me insane and saying they have way too much energy!

- This slow Internet is driving me insane.

Another version is - to lose your mind…

- If I have to do one more jigsaw puzzle or crossword I'm going to lose my mind.

The sixth expression is - tearing your hair out.

- How are you coping?

- Oh, I've literally been tearing my hair out…

- Those Italians must be tearing their hair out by now after three weeks of confinement.

Seventh expression is - I'm dying a slow death.

- How are you?

- I'm dying a slow death here

(That's how I am! I'm so bored).

So, that's just a few expressions to get you through your long days.
